Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 July 2026

Chattie is an early-stage service that lets people join identity-verified chat rooms. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use chattie.app, why, how long we keep it, and your rights over it. We've written it to match exactly what our systems do.

The short version

Who we are

Chattie ("we", "us") operates chattie.app and is the data controller for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, contact privacy@chattie.app.

What we collect, why, and how long we keep it

1. Identity verification result (sex marker + age)

When you choose "Verify & get in", we create a verification session with Veriff and send you to Veriff's hosted flow. Veriff checks your government ID and performs the biometric checks needed to confirm the document is yours. That document, its images, and the biometric processing stay with Veriff; we never receive or store them.

Veriff returns a decision to us. From it we read only the sex marker recorded on your ID (M/F) and your birth month and year (which we use to show your age). We do not store your full date of birth, and the decision may contain other identity fields (such as your name) that our systems do not read or retain.

2. Email address (waitlist)

Chattie's rooms are still being built. If you give us your email, we add you to the founding-members waitlist so we can tell you when we launch.

3. Aggregate usage analytics

We count anonymous events (page visits, verification starts and completions) to measure interest. If you arrive from one of our ads, the link carries a short campaign tag (e.g. ?v=…) that we use only to compare ad messages in aggregate. These counts are not linked to your identity. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding demand.

4. Cookies

We set one cookie, chattie_session: a short-lived (1 hour), secure, HTTP-only cookie that carries your verification session across the Veriff flow. It is strictly necessary for the service to work, so it does not require consent. We do not set advertising or analytics cookies. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.

What we never receive or store

Who we share data with

We rely on a small number of external services. Most act only on our instructions (processors); Veriff also processes some data on its own behalf, as noted below.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

International transfers

Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it ("right to erasure"), restrict or object to processing, request portability, and withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@chattie.app. We will respond within one month. An erasure request removes your waitlist email and any stored sex and birth month/year we hold for you. Veriff independently keeps its own verification records (see “Who we share data with”), so to access or delete the data Veriff holds you must contact Veriff through its privacy notice.

Data security

We minimise what we hold: no ID documents, no photos, no names, and the verification result is short-lived. Verification decisions are authenticated with an HMAC signature before we accept them. Data is stored with the providers listed above.

Age

Chattie is for adults aged 18 and over. Verification confirms your age; if you are under 18 you may not use the service.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product develops. We will change the "last updated" date above, and for material changes to how we use your data, we will make the change clear before it takes effect.
